Obituary of Helen M. Zuba

Helen M. Zuba, 95, of Plains Township, passed on Thursday, July 8,2021, while in the comforting care of the Allied Services Center City Skilled Nursing, Wilkes-Barre. Helen was born in Wilkes-Barre on September 9, 1925, a daughter to the late Felix and Agnes Wnuk Ostraszewski. She attended St. Stanislaus Elementary school and graduated from James M. Coughlin High School, class of 1942. In 1950, Helen married her love, Joseph Zuba. The new couple settled in Plains Township to raise their children Robert and Christine. Helen was a homemaker that was active in her children’s lives and also in her faith. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. Andre Bessette (formerly St. Stanislaus Kostka). She was a member of the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. At home, Helen enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, May 25,1995; sister Frances Terascavage; brothers Andrew and Felix Ostraszewski. Surviving are her son Robert, Plains Twp.; daughter Christine Zuba, Blackwood, NJ; granddaughter Stephanie Marella, Atco, NJ; grandson Jason Zuba, Turnersville, NJ; great grandson, Gavin Marella, Atco, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, July 12,2021, at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains Township, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Helen's funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her home parish of St. Andre Bessette, 668 N. Main St. Wilkes-Barre at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Rev. Kenneth Seegar will be celebrant of service. Interment will follow in parish cemetery, Plains Township. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be given to “The ARC of NEPA”, 115 Meadow Ave, Scranton, PA 18505.
