So many fond memories, it’s difficult to choose just one. Let me share one of my favorites…the field trip to the Buffalo Farm. Karen set up a field trip for her fourth graders and invited my class to join hers because there was ample space on the bus for both classes. To say the Buffalo Farm was in the middle of nowhere would be a gross understatement. In fact, if you type in “the middle of nowhere” on google search, it will take you to the Buffalo Farm. After traveling for what seemed like an eternity, we finally arrived. The owner of the farm greeted us and directed us to a fence where we would gaze at the herd of buffalo - at least 2 football fields away! No close encounters, no chance to touch a real live buffalo, nothing. We filed back on the bus and headed back to school. Over an hour to get there, five minutes at the farm, and another long ride back to the school.
Thanks Karen, for including my class and me on the infamous field trip to the Buffalo farm. More than once, I would cast up the infamous Buffalo Farm story to Karen whenever we both needed a laugh.
I taught with Karen at the Bear Creek Elementary School for over twenty-five years, but I never had the privilege of actually seeing her teach. However, I was the beneficiary of the fruits of her labor. When her students entered my fifth grade classroom, they were well prepared for the rigors of fifth grade, Karen was a major reason our Bear Creek students excelled in their state tests.
I will remember Karen Werner as an accomplished teacher, a model mother and a cherished friend.
So long dear friend,
Bob Myers

Reaching out as a former student of Mrs. Werner's. I imagine when you are a teacher your hope is to impact your students' lives in such a way that they remember you for years to come. As a 46 year old person, I can say that that is definitely the case with Karen Werner. My sister, Stacey, sent me the news of her passing, as she was someone that we both held dear and always remembered so fondly. My mother, Joyce, was always sure to tell us any time she ran into her, as she was always so friendly and kind to our entire family. The Bear Creek community was a close one and that is due to wonderful and caring people like Karen. She also had the coolest car of any teacher I ever knew. I am so sorry for your loss and I am sure this is such a difficult time for your entire family. May her memory be a blessing to you all and please rest in the comfort of knowing how many lives she touched and enriched.
With love and sympathy,
Christie Smith

Mrs. Werner was a wonderful teacher and person, and had the best smile and laugh. She had a very positive impact on our son’s early lives as students at Bear Creek Elementary. We were so blessed that she played such an important role during Patrick, Todd, and Darryl’s early lives. Rest In Peace good woman!

Tara and Samantha, I am so sorry for your loss. It was very nice to meet all of you when you became our neighbors so many years ago. I will have fond memories of your mom from back then.
I am sure she was proud of both of you girls and will be a continuing inspiration to you both as you continue her legacy of being great mothers and someday great grandmothers.
Love, Carol Pace
