Obituary of Linda K. Carney

Linda K. Carney, 76, of Hunlock Creek, passed on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, while at her private residence.   Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 22, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Marjorie Savino Casterline from the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre.  At a young age, Linda’s family moved to Laurel Run where she attended the Laurel Run grade school and was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, class of 1965. Linda met and fell in love with Richard Kenzakoski. A short time later they were married and moved to Swoyersville where they raised four sons: Richard Jr.; James; William; and Steven. As the boy aged, the family moved to a home built on Bald Mountain. During this time, Linda and Richard divorced but remained lifelong friends to raise their sons.   As the boys became men, Linda returned to school at the Luzerne County Community college to become a Registered Nurse. Over the next forty years of her life, Linda served the needs of the sick. She worked at several long-term care facilities as the Director of Nursing for the Birchwood Nursing Facility, Nanticoke; Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre; and the Kingston Rehabilitation Center, Kingston.  On August 23, 1985, Linda married Joseph Carney. Joe was a First Sergeant in the Army and was recalled to service. This took the couple from living in Exeter to a short stay at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where Linda was the Director of Nursing at a Cherry Hill Nursing Facility. In 1989, Joseph was stationed in Japan, and Linda went with Joseph. Linda became a Registered Nurse working in the U.S. Army Japan Medical Facility giving immunizations to soldiers.  In 1992, the couple returned to the states, living in Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. Linda then went to work for the Devereux Hospital and Children’s Center of Florida. Linda also took on the role of coordinating the visiting nursing program in the Florida area from 1992 until 1998. As Joseph's career ended with the military, they moved to Palm Bay where she still managed the visiting nurses. In 1999, the couple made a decision to return to the valley to help raise her grandchildren and spend time with her sons. During her lifetime, Linda enjoyed traveling the world. She especially enjoyed Hawaii. As she visited many areas, she would immerse herself in the culture and educate herself in local traditions. Whenever on vacation you could find Linda on a beach or in the shopping districts looking for local jewelry. When she was home, she enjoyed skiing with her family and friends. Linda was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Marjorie; sons Richard Jr.; William: and Steven; sisters Carol Casterline; Marjorie Casterline; and ex husband Richard Kenzakoski Sr. Surviving to mourn her passing are her husband of thirty-seven years Joseph Carney SGM US Army (RET); son James and his wife Elaine; grandchildren Richard (RJ); Zachary; William (Billy); Megan; James ; Benjamin; Tabitha (Tabby); and Gavin; brothers Carl and his wife Peggy; Bill and his wife Bernice; David and his wife Misty;  along with several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. At the request of Linda and her family, funeral arrangements will be held privately and in the care of the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc, Plains Township.
