Obituary of Karen Lee Malacheski- Nowak

Karen Lee Malacheski Nowak, 62, of Wilkes-Barre, passed on Friday, June 30,2023, while in the care of the Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 5, 1961. She was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Marion R. Mitchell Malacheski. Karen grew up in the Miners-Mills area and attended St. Clair Street Elementary School and was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School,class of 1979. Karen continued her education at Luzerne County Community College where she became a certified Beautician and was also pursuing an education in nursing because she loved to care for people. Unfortunately, Karen left school before she finished her nursing degree. She worked a few years as a beautician in various salons throughout the valley. After a few years, Karen wanted a career change, she started working for R.C.A. of Mountaintop. Karen worked for R.C.A for twenty years as an assembler and tester until her retirement. In retirement, her nursing education started to shine, she helped to take care of her ailing parents for several years before they passed. Karen was passionate about animals all her life. She loved caring for dogs, cats, birds, you name it, Karen helped to care for them. She lived a simple life of enjoying cooking for family and friends for all holidays. Karen was an avid Penn State and Minnesota Vikings football fan. She attended many games throughout her life. Karen was also a skilled landscaper in cutting hedges for family and friends and helped to manicure your garden with her green thumb. In her last days, Karen had an angel come to help and care for her in her daily needs. The family would like to thank Paul Zajaczkowski for helping and caring for Karen when it was needed most. Paul, you were Karen's angel and now she is watching over you. In passing, Karen joins in heaven with her loving parents Frank and Marion and brother Mark. She is survived by her brother Robert and his wife Betsy, Wilkes-Barre; nephews Shawn Malloy and his wife Louise; and Jesse Malacheski; grand niece Charlotte Malloy; aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation and Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Twp. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the start of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Mass will be officiated by Rev. John Lambert, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Karen's memory may be given to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington, PA, 18411. Arrangements are in the care of the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains Twp.
