Genevieve( Jean) Trosky, 96, of Plains, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 5, 2015, while in the care of St. Luke's Villa, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in the Minooka Section of Scranton on June 17, 1919. She was a daughter of the late Theodore and Marcella Kryeski Kolakowski. She attended local Moosic schools and attended the local high school.
Jean and her late husband Peter Trosky, resided in New Jersey for 23 years and returned to the valley in 1972. Together they celebrated forty two years of marriage until Peter's unexpected passing on January 19,1983.
Jean was an accomplished sewing machine operator for several local garment companies over the years until her retirement. She was an active member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, Plains; the Altar and Rosary Society, and a member of the local Senior Citizens Association.
Jean loved to cook for her family. She was the original "Mrs. T" with her famous pierogies and the best Chrusciki ( Polish Angel Wings) that you could find in Plains. When she wasn't in the kitchen, you could find her sewing, gardening, or just enjoying her family life of being a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother,great grandmother, and a good friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband Peter; sisters Helen Smigiel, Josephine Scripp, Frances Kolakowski; and Constance Kosko; brothers Stephen and John Kolakowski; and son-in-law Daniel Laskay.
Surviving are her daughters Joan Laskay, East Brunswick, NJ, Dolores Nadwodney and husband Larry, Granville, OH; sister-in-law Celia Godula; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains. Rev. Jack Lambert will be celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Plains.
Friends and family may call at the church from 9:00 am on Tuesday till time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be given to the St. Jude's Childrens' Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
