Obituary of William A. Stoddart III

William "Buzz" Stoddart III, 79, of Exeter, passed on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, while in the care of the Commonwealth General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre
Born on February 18, 1944, in Wilmington, DE, he was a son of William Jr. and Florence Allegretto Stoddart. William grew up attending local city schools and was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, class of 1962. He continued his education at the University of Delaware where he received a B.A. in Social Sciences in 1966.
In 1966, William enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country in the Vietnam War serving as an Intelligence Analyst. After being honorably discharged from the service, he began working for the Corpus Christi High School in Wilmington from 1970-1971, where he taught Sociology, American History and Business Law. He later taught at Avon Grove High School, West Grove, from 1971-1972. William taught American History and Problems of Democracy in high school. In 1973, he began working for the State of Delaware-Division of Social Services as a caseworker. He climbed the career ladder and was promoted to a supervisor in 1981. After twenty-five years of service, William retired.
William was preceded in death by his parents William and Florence; and his stepfather Charles Rutter
Surviving are his sister Linda MacLeod and her husband Kenneth; Exeter; brother Charles Stoddart; niece Kimberly Drutchal and her husband Jay, Wilkes-Barre; nephew Kenneth MacLeod Jr and his wife Nicole, Exeter; grandnieces Callie Drutchal and Tegan MacLeod; and grandnephews Tyler Richards and Blaine MacLeod.
The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Meade Street Residence for the care and compassion given to Buzz while he was a guest.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains, Pa, 18705.
Interment with military honors provided by the United States Army will be held on Friday, October 20, at 1:00 p.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery,2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware, 19701.
