Elwood Tyson Hunsicker Jr., "Woody" 76, of Polk Township, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed into his Lord’s Kingdom during the early morning hours on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at his home with his loving wife Jean at his side. Born in Schwenksville on March 2, 1948, he was a son to the late Elwood Sr. and Alice Martin Hunsicker. Woody attended local schools and was a graduate of the Schwenksville High School, class of 1966. In 1967, he joined the United States Army, and a short time later was sent to the Vietnam War where he served as a heavy equipment mechanic. After being honorably discharged and returning home, Woody continued his education at Montgomery County Community College where he received his associates degree in Physical Education. At a family wedding in 1976, he met a friend of the bride, Miss Jean Cooper. One year later, on October 1, 1977, the two were joined in marriage. Together they raised their children: Robert, Sheri, Karen, and Ann. Over his lifetime, Woody held employment as a mechanic, truck driver, and a correction officer for SCI Graterford prison. Woody enjoyed living in the wooded area of Polk Township where he could go biking, hunting, or fishing with his family. He had many hobbies of wood working, golfing, shooting pool, or playing a game of horseshoes. He enjoyed summers by going on family vacations to the shore. On weekends in the fall, you could find Woody cheering for his favorite football team the Philadelphia Eagles or spending time with his grandchildren. Woody was a devout believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In 1982, the family joined Blue Mountain Community Church, formerly known as Sonlife. Woody was very involved with the church. He helped to build the new church and volunteered for many church functions. He was part of the drama team; a prayer leader; a C.R. leader; and worked in the children’s ministry. Woody was also a member of the local West End American Legion Post 927, in Gilbert. He was preceded in passing by his parents Elwood Sr and Alice; sisters Donna Bower, Susan McKay; and sons- in- laws Paul Gearhart, and Nicholas Sorrenti. Surviving is his loving wife of forty-six years; Jean; son Robert and his wife Shawna, Polk Township; daughter Sheri Kimble, North Carolina; Karen Sorrenti, Stroudsburg; Ann Carberry and her husband Chris, Hellertown; sixteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
