Obituary of Jerome N. Katulka Sr.

Jerome N. Katulka Sr., 89, of Falls, passed on peacefully in the care of the Allied Service Hospice, Scranton, on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Born in Plains on December 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Dobish Katulka. Jerome attended Maffett Street Elementary and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, class of 1952. He then joined the United States Air Force serving in Newfoundland, Labrador, and El Paso, Texas. He served during the Korean War and attained the rank of Airman First Class before he was honorably discharged.
Returning home, Jerome continued his education by going to a technical school to begin a lifelong career in repairing electronics. Jerome held employment at Toole’s T.V., Wilkes-Barre; Lignacraft, West Pittston; Kanaar Corp, Kingston; Tobyhanna Army Depot, Matco, Inc, Pittston, and R.C.A. in Dunmore where he retired from.
During a baseball game in 1958 at the Pine Ridge Baseball field, Jerome caught sight of Bernadette Kubicki. After a short time dating, on August 20, 1960, they were married. Together the couple raised three children: Jerome Jr., Jeanette, and Richard, and resided in the Port Blanchard area. In his retirement, the family built a new home in the Fall area and they have resided there for the past twenty-five years. Jerome was a past member of St. Joseph Church and a current member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Plains.
Jerome enjoyed going bowling, fishing, gardening, and going hunting. In his retirement years, he loving spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jerome is joined in heaven by his loving parents; son Jerome Jr.; sisters Rita and Marlene Katulka, and brother Robert Katulka.
Surviving is his wife of sixty-three years, Bernadette, at home; daughter Jeanette Supinski and her husband Edward, Avoca; son Richard, Laceyville; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and his dog Max.
Jerome’s funeral service will be held on Friday, May 10, at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Lambert at SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Hudson Road at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
