Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Micheal Joseph Trebunak Jr. ,67, of Plains Township, passed into heaven, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and his family was with him till the Lord took his hand from the Celtic Hospice Facility, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Mike was born in Wilkes-Barre, on August 3, 1947, to the best parents Michael and Anna Wasmanski Trebunak Sr. The Trebunak family lived on Skidmore and Herny Street as Mike grew up. He attended local school and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1965.
Mike joined the United States Navy and served as a fireman on the USS Stickell during the Vietman War. He was honorably discharged from his service. Returning home, Michael married the former Carol Ann Baran on September 20,1969. They lived in Dallas for a short time, till they returned home to Plains in May 1975. Together they raised two daughters Leah and Melissa. They had many many "step daughters" from the town. Mike and Carol's home was always open to whomever came by. Over the years, their home was the home away from home for many of Leah's and Melissa's friends.
Mike held several jobs over the years from working at Owens Illnois; JB Post Modular Homes; Alside, as a driver and then store manager; Whipples Lumber, as a store manager; Norondex, as an on the road sales man; and retired from 84 Lumber in June 2012, as on the road sales man. He still worked part time for Flontech LLC, until December 2014.
Mike's life was filled with many passions. When he was young, he loved to play the drums. He was in the band called the Three M's, that played throughout the valley. In recent years, he was an avid gardener; and loved his Shetland Sheep dogs. He was a devote Nascar fan of #33 Harry Gant and mostly all of the drivers, except Joey Logano, he just really didn't like him. He filled every moment with his grandchild Konnor, who was his star on the horizon to look for strength.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Carol, at home; daughters Leah Gordon and her husband James, "one special son in law" as Mike put it,Plains; Melissa Trebunak, Plains; his step daughter and his loving nurse Angie Malys, Plains;" the best grandson anyone could ask for Konnor Jacob Kid," as Mike would say all the time; nephew Robert Baran and his wife Becca, Plains; and great niece Ava Baran,Plains; step grand daughters Aleksa and Marissa Malys, Plains; and several step daughters, too many to list.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015, at 9:00 am from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc, 55 Stark Street, Plains, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in SS. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dallas. Where military honors will be provided by the US Navy and the Plains American Legion Post 558, Plains.
