Obituary of Vincent Paul Scavone

Vincent Paul Scavone, 47, of the Hudson section of Plains Township, lost his courageous three and a half year battle with cancer Friday evening, November 21,2014. Vinny was surrounded by his loving family through his fight and they were by his side as he entered paradise.
Vincent was born on June 11, 1967, in Kingston. He was a son to Lena Chiocca Scavone and the late Vincent Scavone Sr. Vincent spent his childhood going up in Wilkes-Barre. He was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School, class of 1985.
In 1986, Vincent and his brothers became founders and co-owners of their business J.S. Sporting Goods Inc. in Wilkes-Barre Township. The business became one of Vincent's passions in life, working endlessly loving what he did.
When he wasn't working, Vincent was enjoying the outdoors. He was a true sportsman at heart. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and archery. Vincent was an excellent marksmen participating in competitive shooting clays. Even through his sickness, Vincent traveled to Wyoming where he hunted elk and mule deer.
In his personal life, Vincent was quiet, soft spoken, compassionate, proud of his work and his family. He loved to talk to everyone when he had the chance. Vincent had a strong belief in his Lord. He was a dedicated member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Wilkes-Barre. He was also a proud member of the National Rifle Association and the National Sporting Clay Association.
Vincent is preceded in death by his father Vincent Sr. in 1977.
Surviving is his mother Lena, Hudson; sisters Elaine Pauliashak and her husband George, Scott Township, Bernadette Scavone, Hudson, Theresa Gamino and her husband Alfonso, Texas; brothers Mark and his wife Rose, Exeter, Dr. Jerome Scavone and his wife Susan, Florida; Ronald and his wife Karen, Sweet Valley, Peter and his wife Patricia, Wilkes-Barre, Paul and his wife Kathleen, Sweet Valley, Christopher and his wife Janice, Laurel Run; his loving girlfriend of 21 years, Diane Butchko, Shickshinny; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
The Scavone family would like to thank Doctor Charles Manganiello and staff of Pittston Medical Associates; Doctor Chu and Staff of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Henry Cancer Center; and Doctor Staddon and Staff, Penn Medicine, Philadelphia, for the exceptional care and treatment of Vincent.
Vincent funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at 9:oo a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc.,55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the parish of St. Benedict's held at St. Dominic's Church, 155 Austin Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Rev Joseph A. Kearney will be officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
