Obituary of Leonard Matthew Kalinoski

Leonard M. Kalinoski, 84, of the Hudson section of Plains, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, April 18, 2014.
Born in Plains, on February 12, 1930, Leonard was the son of the late Matthew and Lydia Sokolowski Kalinoski. Leonard grew up in Hudson. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1947. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country as a radio operator in the 2500th Maintenance Squadron out of Mitchel Air Force Base, New York, during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Sergeant.
After leaving the Air Force, Leonard returned back to the states. He found employment in New Jersey, but then found his lifelong job working for Tobyhanna Army Depot as an electronics technician. Leonard put in thirty two years of service. Leonard in his older years, was a lunch delivery driver for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District and a security guard for PNC Bank, Wilkes-Barre.
Leonard married the former Mary Salvo, who recently passed on March 18, 2011. Together they raised two sons Leonard and Bob.
Leonard was a member of St. Joseph Church, Hudson, and the Holy Name Society, until the church's closure. He was a current member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. He was an honorary member and past commander of the Polish American Veterans (PAV),Hudson; a sixty-six year member of the American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon, Post 558, Plains; the Polska Club Amerykanska Organizcja, Plains; the Hudson Servicemen Club, Hudson; Henry Citizens Club, Plains; Itlo Club, Hilldale; and several other clubs and organizations.
Throughout his life, Leonard was an avid bowler. He participated in leagues over the years at Lispi Lanes, Modern Lanes, and Elko Lanes. He was also very accurate with darts. He was a member of the Henry Dart Club. He enjoyed traveling to other societies to have a friendly match. In his younger years, Leonard was a coach of the Hudson Little League.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Lydia, and his wife, Mary.
Surviving are his sons Leonard, Hudson; Robert and his wife Deborah, Sweet Valley; sister Leona Peters and her husband Joseph, East Stroudsburg; brother-in-laws Robert Salvo, Florida; Michael Salvo, Tucson, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Leonard will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 9:00 am from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. John Boyle, pastor. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hudson. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the America Legion, Post, 558. Friends and family are asked to call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
