William Richard Romonoski, 89, of Wilkes-Barre, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2016, while in the care of Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in the Miner- Mills section of Wilkes-Barre on July 6,1927, William was one of ten children of the late Frank and Catherine Pirhala Romonoski. William attended Wilkes-Barre schools and was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, class of 1945. He then joined the United States Army and served in Korea in Company A, 1st infantry. He attained the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge.
After his military service, William joined the merchant marines and served his time on the Great Lakes. Thereafter, he was employed as a boiler fireman, by the U.S. government, until the time of his retirement.
William was a member of the St. Benedict’s Parish, Wilkes-Barre. He was also a forty-year member of the American Legion, Wilkes-Barre Township, and the V.F.W., Duryea.
William was an avid gardener and lived for his tomato plants and he also was an animal lover.
William is preceded in death by sisters Catherine Leluga and Mildred Mioskie; brothers Andrew; Peter; Francis, Edward; George, and Gerald.
Surviving are his brothers Joseph, Wilkes-Barre, and Leonard, Virginia; nieces; nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday , October 11, 2016, at 1:00 pm in the Little Flower Manor Chapel, 200 South Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Richard Ghezzi . Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dallas , with military honors. Friends and family may call at the chapel on Tuesday from 12:30pm until the time of mass.
