Obituary of Joan Gail Speed
Joan Gail Speed, 79, of Wilkes-Barre, passed on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, with her family by her side.
Joan was born on June 8, 1938, in Philadelphia. She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Dorothy( Casey) Buskey Shick. She grew up in the Philadelphia area and attended the local school.
Joan worked most of her life at the Jersey Shore at the boardwalk and for the Tropicana Casino from 1990-2005. In 2006, she moved to Wilkes-Barre to enjoy her family.
Joan enjoyed talking to and spending time with her friends Elaine, Roseanne, and Bunny. She enjoyed spending time at the casino playing slots, she was an animal lover at heart. She enjoyed going to the beach with her family and friends and loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Speed; sons Joseph and Jackie Bahel, and brother John Shick.
Joan is survived by her daughter Dorothy Bahel, Wilkes-Barre; son Edward Washney and his wife Jennifer, Plains; brothers George Shick, Eggharbor Twp., NJ; and Clarence “ Butch” Shick and his wife Sandra, Absecon, NJ; best friend and sister in law Elaine and Woody Woodruff, Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many compassionate nurses and volunteers that cared for mom at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
Funeral Services for Joan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2017, from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. Service will be officiated by Rev. Jack Lambert. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Plains. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
