Obituary of Rosalie Florence Prescavage
Rosalie Konieczna Prescavage, 94, a resident of Riverstreet Manor, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
Rosalie, known as Honey, was the daughter of the late Rose and Ignatius Konieczny. A lifelong resident of Hudson, she graduated from St. Joseph’s Elementary School and Plains High School where she was an excellent student. During WWII, she helped to produce airplanes at a General Motors plant in Linden, New Jersey. Rosalie was the personification of the pool of women who were known as “Rosie the Riveter.” In 1946, she married Stanley Prescavage and was a stay-at-home mom until she joined her husband in operating Stanley’s Market in Miners Mills from 1968 until their retirement in 1988.
Rosalie enjoyed her role as homemaker and was an excellent cook. She was the family champion at all word games and even in her nineties, she could beat everyone at Wheel of Fortune. Surrounded by a sports-crazy family, she never failed to ask if our favorite teams had won. Rosalie was devoted to her only granddaughter, Deena Rose. Deena’s babysitter from an early age, Rosalie never missed a school function and could be found rooting her on at every sporting event. While Rosalie never fulfilled her dream of attending college, she instilled in her children a love of learning and was very proud that all her children and grandchildren were college graduates.
Rosalie was a life-long member of Saint Joseph’s Church in Hudson and later Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Plains.
Besides her parents, Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, brother Stanley Konieczny, and sisters Lou Ason, Sophie Konnick, Frances Wanek and Lottie Wysocki.
She is survived by her daughter and caregiver Eileen Palmer, Hudson; twin sons Ronald and his wife Jacquelyn, Old Forge; Donald and his wife Edith; Hudson, and their daughter, her beloved granddaughter and namesake, Deena Rose, Chicago; step-grandson Mario Nardone and wife Piper, Charleston; sister Jean Brezinski, Warren, Michigan; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, Hudson Rd, Plains with the Reverend Jack Lambert officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hudson. Friends may call on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff and Riverstreet Manor and Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Randi and Pat, for the compassionate care shown to Rosalie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, Pa, 18702.
