Obituary of Stanley Michael Sierko

Please share a memory of Stanley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stanley Michael Sierko, 84, of Plains Township, passed into eternal life surrounded by his loving family on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2017, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a brief illness.

Born on April 29,1933, in Plains Township, he was a son of the late Michael Stanley and Anna Ference Sierko.

Stanley grew up in the Plains area and was commonly referred to as “Stashu”. He attended local schools graduating in 1951 from the Plains Memorial High School.

Stanley was employed at General Cigar on Rutter Avenue, Kingston, PA, as a warehouse laborer. Over the next thirty-one years of dedicated service, he rose through different job titles retiring as general manager. Stanley was essential to the success of the company throughout several changes in ownership before retiring.

On June 30, 1956 Stanley took the former Florence Marie Ceklosky as his wife. Over the next fifty-four years of marriage, they were always together with their growing family equally sharing in the raising their two children Michael and Christine. Their home was always filled with the sound of Polka music and the love of Christ was in their heart as they were both lifelong members of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains.

Stanley was a man of many talents. He introduced his son to building and flying model planes, fixing cars, and taking time for father and son fishing trips. Some of the most special times involved cheering on the Penn State Nittany Lions football team. Whether it be trips to Happy Valley or simply staying home watching the games, Stanley was a true Penn State fan.

During retirement, Stanley worked as a bartender with his wife at the Convention Hall of Pittston. He also worked in the maintenance departments of the United Penn Bank of Wilkes-Barre, and the Bon Ton Department Store, Wilkes-Barre.

Together Florence and Stanley helped to raise their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved every minute they could spend with them until Florence’s untimely passing on October 27, 2010.

Stanley was a long-standing member of the Friendship Club of Plains, and was a current member of the Polish American Veteran’ Club (PAV).

He was preceded in death by his wife Florence, sisters Anelia (Nellie) Malachefski, and Theresa Holub.

Surviving are his son, Michael Sierko and his wife, Dianne, Hudson; daughter, Christine; four granddaughters Krystal, Colleen, Kimberly, and Kayla; great-grandchildren Serenity, Kylie, Colton, Alina, and Brayden; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
