Obituary of Edward Joseph Ornoski
Edward Joseph Ornoski, 87, of Plains Township, passed peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2017, in the care of the Veteran Administration Hospital of Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Plains, on September 13, 1930, he was a son of the late Alexander and Stella (Kukla) Ornoski. Ed attended the local school and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1948.
Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. His tour of duty stationed him in Texas, Wyoming, Colorado, and Washington. Ed received an honorable discharge after suffering a life-changing injury; however, Ed did not let anything stop him. He found employment at the Prestige Shoe Factory and worked with the Luzerne Country Road and Bridge Department for several years. Ed then began work for the Tobyhanna Army Depot and he retired after twenty-five years of service to the government.
When Ed was not working, you could find him with his late brother Joseph (Chuck) going fishing, hunting, or golfing. Ed loved to watch sports and cheer on his Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He also enjoyed going for walks and taking his faithful beagle, Duke, with him.
Mr. Ornoski was a past member of St. Joseph Church, Hudson and a current member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Plains; a life member of the American Legion. He was a proud member of the Henry Club and of the Polish American Veterans (PAV), Plains, and a life honorary member of the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.).
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Stella (Kukla) Ornoski; sister Theresa Ruskoski; brother Joseph (Chuck), and an infant sister.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews and his extended family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tracey for her exceptional care along with the doctors and staff of the second-floor Dementia Unit at the Veterans Hospital.
