Obituary of Dolores Viola Hiedix
Dolores Viola Hiedix, 87, of the Miners-Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed on Wednesday, June 27,2018, while in care of the Tiffany Court of Kingston.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 23, 1931, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Lukasivich Krokos. She grew up in the Wilkes-Barre area and was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, class of 1948.
After graduation, Dolores worked as a feeder in the Consolidated Cigar Factory and met her future husband Andrew (Peachy)Hiedix. After a few short years, Andrew and Dolores started their family and had a son, Andrew. As Andrew grew up, Dolores went back to work as a garment worker in the Plains Bra and Dress Factory. In her spare time, she was a bowling instructor at the Stanton Lanes, Wilkes-Barre.
During summers the Hiedix family would take their yearly trips to the beach and enjoy the Wildwoods in New Jersey.
As time passed, Dolores became a certified nursing assistant and helped to care for the residence of the Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, until her retirement.
Dolores in her golden years, enjoyed spending time sewing and enjoying the company of her family and especially her two grandsons: A.J. and Matthew.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-two years Andrew, sisters Margaret Zapotoczny, and Josephine Krokos; brothers Francis Krokos, John Krokos Jr., and Joseph Krokos, and brothers- in- law Michael McGrady, and Larry Swetz.
Dolores is survived by son Andrew J. and his wife Christine, West Wyoming; grandsons A.J. and Matthew, West Wyoming; sisters Genevieve Nat, Plains; Lillian McGrady, Dallas; Ann Marie Swetz, Alabama; brothers Walter and his wife Mary Ann, Parsons; Richard and his wife Diane, Dallas, sisters- in- law Patricia Krokos, Wilkes-Barre, Juniata Krokos, Florida, and Mildred, Miners Mills; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say thank you to the Tiffany Court of Kingston’s staff of nurses and caregivers and to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all of the love and compassionate care Dolores had received.
Dolores’s funeral will be held Saturday, June 30, at 9:00 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark St., Plains Township. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township, with Rev. John Lambert, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Byzantine Cemetery, Plains Township. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
