Obituary of Thomas Robert Flaherty

Thomas R. Flaherty, 76 of West Chestnut Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA passed away on July 6, 2013 in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital with his family by his side.
Thomas was the son of the late William and Julia Marchlinski Flaherty and the husband of the late Henrietta (Cookie) Flaherty. A sister, Geraldine, passed away in infancy.
Tommy had been a resident of the East Mountain Golden Living Center for the past seven months.
Thomas was the husband of Henrietta (Cookie) M. TirpakFlaherty who passed away October 21, 2012 after 55 years of marriage. They were married in Sacred Heart Church on North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Thomas was a veteran of the United States Army and served stateside as well as in Formosa, Taiwan for 2 years. After his time in the US Army, he worked at several local garment companies as well as Kanarrs Metal works in Kingston and Forty Fort where he retired in 2002.
Thomas was an avid Notre Dame fan and always looked forward to watching the games at his brother Frank's home with their wives cheering at their sides.
He was a past member of Sacred Heart Slovak Church, Wilkes-Barre, a proud Golden Member of the North End Slovak Citizens Club. He was a frequent visitor to the club to see his many friends.
Tom leaves behind a family who loved, cared for him and will greatly miss him. He is survived by his five brothers, William Flaherty and his wife, Betty of Forty Fort, Frank Flaherty and his wife, Peggy, Wilkes-Barre, Martin Flaherty and Joseph Flaherty, Hudson, and Michael Flaherty and his wife, Carol of Warrior Run Borough. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the East Mountain Golden Living Center, especially Karen, Loraine, Megan, Irene and Matt for their exceptional kindness and care. We would also like to thank the staff, nursing staff, and doctors of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for their attention and compassionate care of Tommy and our family.
A private viewing and service will be held at the convenience of the family.
