Ronald C. "Abe" Rygielski, 62, of the Hudson section of Plains, passed on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in the Celtic Inpatient unit of Geisinger Hospital South, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, on July 2, 1951, he was a son to the late Chester and Josephine Stachowski Rygielski. He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and the Plains Memorial High School. After school, he worked as a laborer in Sterling Products, Wilkes-Barre; Hammer's Garage, Hudson; and Addy Asphalt, Keystone. He then became employed by McGovern Brothers Inc., Wilkes-Barre as a fence foreman.
Abe was a past basketball coach for the St. Joseph Black Knights, Hudson. He was a member of the Lani Club, Wilkes-Barre, and the Italian Club, Plains. When at the clubs, he was an active member in the shuffle board and dart leagues.
Throughout Abe's life he was an avid racing fan. This love of racing led him to worked alongside his family in racing cars for Humanik, Maloney, and Rygielski Racing Teams. Over the years he enjoyed spending his time at the Pocono Raceway. Abe loved to cook and barbecue with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing on Francis Slocum Lake, Carverton. In the last few years, his grandchildren were the love of his life, especially giving them an endless supply of M&M's.
Abe is survived by his companion Nancy Hrab, Hudson; daughter Yvette Nichols and her husband Joseph, Plains; sons Brad and his wife Kelly, Keystone; Brian and his wife Robin, Wilkes-Barre Township; children's mother Peggy Rygielski, Keystone; grandchildren Gabrielle, Mia, Ava, Giada, and Nina Nichols; Evan and Ella Rygielski, Brian Rygielski, and Brandon Fenner.
Abe's funeral service will be held on Monday, March 10,2014, at 9:00 am from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc.,55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30am in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road Plains. Interment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hudson. Friends and family may pay their respects at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to : Medical Oncology Prescription Fund, 382 Pierce St, Kingston, Pa, 18704.
A special thank you to nurse Katie Arensmeyer and the rest of the attending staff at the Medical Oncology Associates of Wyoming Valley. Thank you for your kindness and gentle care of Abe when he needed it the most.
