Obituary of Doctor Janice Catherine Keil
Dr. Janice Catherine Keil of Plains Township and formerly of Bloomsburg, passed peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 26, 2018, while in the compassionate care of the Celtic Hospice Unit, Geisinger South Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre the daughter of the late George and Dorothy Hayes Keil of Hudson, Plains Township.
Janice was a graduate of Plains High School, class of 1966 and received a Bachelor and Masters degree in Business Education from Bloomsburg State College. She received a Doctorate of Education degree from Temple University.
She was employed as an Associate Professor in Business Education and Business Information Systems Department at Bloomsburg University for 27 years retiring in 2008. Besides teaching graduate and undergraduate classes, she supervised student teachers from many years. She was an adviser to Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), Future Business Leaders PBL for 20 years and an advisor to Delta Pi Epsilon a graduate honor society. She was named Advisor of the Year by the State Association of PBL and was recognized as an Outstanding Local Advisor by the National PBL Association.
Doctor Keil was active in professional associations in Business Education having served as Secretary to PA Business Education Association (PBEA). She was named Collegiate Educator of the year by PBEA. She was also recognized as a Collegiate Educator of the Year by the Eastern Business Education Association. She was actively involved in the National Business Education Association (NBEA), having served as chair for many committees and was a speaker at several conferences.
Janice was actively involved in the Bloomsburg community having served as President to the Woman’s Civic Club and the Bloomsburg Business and Professional Woman’s Club (BPW). She was named Woman of the Year by the BPW. She was a volunteer for TreeFest and the Town Park Cake and Ice Cream Festival. She also spent many hours volunteering at the Bloomsburg Fair for the BPW peanut stand to earn money for scholarships and community projects.
She was a life member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Wilkes-Barre, PA.
She is survived by a brother Richard Keil and his wife Fran, Hudson, PA, a sister Doris Keil Romanowski and her husband Barry, Hudson, PA, a niece Nicole Keil Jones and her husband Dean, Hanover Twp, PA and a great nephew Dean Kyle Jones, Hanover Twp.,PA. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. James Brady, Henry Cancer Center, Geisinger Wyoming Valley and all the nurses for the wonderful care they provided to Janice for many years.

Funeral Services for Dr. Keil will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc. 55 Stark Street, Plains, Pa, 18705, with service officiated by Rev. Jim Parks, officiant from the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow at the Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Wyoming. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
